John Q. Adams was the 1st son of a president who became president. He became president 1825-1829. He got a lot of respect because of his father John Adams. Born in Braintree, Massachusetts in 1767. He watched the battle of Bunker Hill from the top of Penn's Hill on top of his family's farm. After graduating from Harvard College, he became a lawyer. In 1802 he was elected the United States Senate. Then 6 years later president Madison appointed him minister of Russia.
Serving under president Monroe, Adams was 1 of the greatest secretaries of state. In 1848 he collapsed on the floor of the House because of a stroke, and then was carried to the Speaker's Room, where 2 days after he died. He was buried next to his mother and wife.
